Colorado lawmakers in the party’s LGBTQ+ caucus on Wednesday criticized a recent federal court decision that allows a Buena Vista preschool that receives taxpayer dollars through a new state program to discriminate in its policies.U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Domenico late last week granted a preliminary injunction barring the state from withholding universal preschool funds from or otherwise punishing Darren Patterson Christian Academy in Buena Vista. The school requires staff and students to follow policies that are based on biological sex rather than gender identity, which potentially violates the state’s nondiscrimination laws and program policies. The school signed up to participate in Colorado’s new universal preschool program and is receiving state money to cover qualifying expenses for students. Friday’s ruling is narrow, the judge noted, granting an injunction that protects only Darren Patterson from state action while the case continues. In a join...

DePetris: For U.S., deep concern about escalation of Israel-Hamas war

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:32:38 GMT

As the war between Israel and Hamas enters its third week, President Joe Biden is walking a tightrope and trying to accomplish three objectives simultaneously: ensure Israel has everything it needs to defend itself in what Israeli defense officials admit will be a long and grueling campaign; remind the Israelis that civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip should be kept to an absolute minimum; and prevent the Israel-Hamas conflict from spiraling into a regional conflagration. It’s the geopolitical equivalent of a high-wire act, and success is by no means assured. To date, the Biden administration has managed to thread the needle decently enough. The Israeli military not only has the equipment, military platforms and personnel to take the fight to Hamas but also has spent weeks hammering Gaza with thousands of airstrikes. Hundreds of thousands of Israeli ground troops are stationed near the Israel-Gaza border waiting for the order to root out Hamas infrastructure and kill the organizatio...

Now his team hopes Bellingham will be fully fit when he faces his first “clasico” match at Barcelona on Saturday. The England midfielder is on scoring streak with 11 goals in 12 matches so far this campaign, compared to 14 goals in all of last season for German side Borussia Dortmund.Bellingham appeared to be bothered by a leg problem when he was substituted after scoring his latest goal in a 2-1 win at Braga in the Champions League on Tuesday. Coach Carlo Ancelotti, however, said immediately after the victory that it was nothing serious.“He’s all right,” Ancelotti said. “He was feeling it a little bit in his abductors because it was a soft pitch. He’s a little tired but that’s to be expected.”Madrid tops the Spanish league level on points with Girona, with Barcelona one point behind in third place going into the game between the fierce rivals. Atletico Madrid is also fourth at thr...
