Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:12:45 GMT

PHOENIX — Sean Payton’s team won’t start playing for more than five months, but the new Broncos head coach has already made a clear impact on the franchise in his boss’ eyes.“He immediately set a different tone coming into the building,” CEO Greg Penner told a small group of reporters at the league’s spring ownership meetings here Tuesday. “As a head coach probably the most important thing that you do is the staff that you hire and right away he came in and he’s built a staff that’s diverse. And I mean diverse across multiple dimensions — it’s age, you’ve got everyone from (75-year-old assistant head coach) Mike Weshtoff to (28-year-old quarterbacks coach) Davis Webb, diverse backgrounds from different coaching trees and perspectives — and that’s probably the most impressive thing.”The first football season under the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group did not go the way anybody expected when they closed on the acquisition of the club in August. It culminated in the firing of first...

Walt Disney Co. is beginning several rounds of layoffs this week intended to reduce Team Mickey's head count by 7,000 jobs and cut costs by more than $5 billion. But no less striking than layoffs at the Happiest Place on Earth is news from the Wall Street Journal that, as part of the cuts, Disney will eliminate its entire division focused on developing content for the metaverse."All of the team’s roughly 50 members have lost their jobs," the Journal reported, citing "people familiar with the situation."The metaverse, in case you're late to the party, is a reimagining of the internet with virtual and augmented reality. Which is to say, you have to wear bulky headsets to experience it.And that's something most people so far would rather not do.Former Disney CEO Bob Chapek was bullish on the metaverse. Kehinde Wiley’s new exhibit of ‘Silence’ in SF has a LOT to say

Kehinde Wiley’s paintings and sculptures at San Francisco’s de Young Museum are “a direct response to the murder of George Floyd,” he explains. The works were also created against the backdrop of the Black Lives Matter movement and the COVID pandemic, which isolated Wiley at his studio in Dakar, Senegal. But for all the timeliness, the exhibit titled “An Archaeology of Silence” was also inspired by a painting created 500 years ago by German artist Hans Holbein the Younger, “The Dead Christ in the Tomb.” Holbein painted a life-size cadaver laid out horizontally, and as an art historian points out, “he spared none of death’s horror.”“As we see George Floyd slain in the streets of America,” Wiley continues, “I start thinking about not just this explosive moment that triggers the whole world into thinking about Black bodies in a different way, but I start thinking about imaging of bodies slain, historically. I start digging into pictures of the fallen Christ.”And so, near the beginning of...
