Pac-12 WBB recap: Stanford falters in NCAAs while UCLA, Utah and Colorado advance to Sweet 16

Can the Pac-12 season be fully deemed a success when Stanford …— Did not win the regular season outright.— Did not win the Pac-12 Tournament.— Did not reach the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time since 2007.The honest answer? No.Not given Stanford’s pedigree, its recent success (the 2021 national title and consecutive Final Four appearances) and its expectations with returning All-Americas Haley Jones and Cameron Brink. But expecting Stanford to always carry the bulk of the Pac-12 weight nationally isn’t fair. Nor is it what the conference expects given that it has produced nine Final Four appearances by six different schools since 2013.So Stanford becoming the first school to lose twice as a No. 1 seed in the first and second rounds – it also happened to the Cardinal in 1998 – can’t be the sole definer of a conference that claimed all season to be the best in the country. What Stanford’s 54-49 home loss to No. 8 seed Mississippi on Sunday did, though, was h...At least one dead after Highway 17 crash near Santa Cruz

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Badgers burrowing under rail tracks have halted trains in the northern and southern Netherlands, forcing lengthy cancellations on at least two lines. All trains were halted Tuesday afternoon on a busy line between the southern cities of Den Bosch and Boxtel after the animals dug into a dike carrying rails. The national railway company said the line would be out of service for at least a week. The digging means “the rails can subside and then the safety of train traffic can no longer be guaranteed,” ProRail, the company that maintains the Dutch rail network said in a statement.Earlier this month, badgers also burrowed under tracks near the northern village of Molkwerum in Friesland province, knocking a line out of service until next month while workers seek permission to shift the animals.Badgers are protected animals in the Netherlands, so rail operators have to get permission to move them or disturb their habitat before repairs can begin.John Voppen, CEO...Norfolk Southern supports some new regs after Ohio disaster

But Shaw had stopped short of endorsing proposed safety regulations under the Railway Safety Act of 2023.This time, Shaw says in prepared remarks released Tuesday that Norfolk Southern will “support legislative efforts to enhance the safety of the freight rail industry.” But he does not address several key provisions of the Railwa...Silver Spring gets a ‘Chipotlane’
